Breathe in. Let it out. This series of delicate abstractions offer a moment to pause and reflect, float and drift with the clouds. The primed wood panels are painted with a mix of acrylic paint washes, pencil and charcoal.
The Landscapes
This series of more than 60 small, moody, monochromatic paintings on wood panel can be seen as a meditation on loss. The landscapes, real or imagined, emerge from my subconscious with a story, sometimes optimistic but more often on the dark side.
The unprimed wood panels are stained with a wash of diluted carbon black acrylic. The wood absorbs the paint stain, creating velvety black passages, while the grain resists the wash, creating delicate transparent waves.
A word about the moon paintings. When I have visitors to the studio I notice people make a bee line for a moon painting tucked away in the corner. Perhaps considered a trite image, I have begun to think there is more to its appeal, so far away and mysterious. A beacon of light in a dark sky, it still has the power to fill us with wonder. And, again, there is the dichotomy of dark and light, yin and yang, that is evident in many of these pieces.
